Behind the Why
I remember the exact moment I chose journalism. It was four years ago, around 9 P.M. on a Sunday night. I had just returned from a horse show and one of the other horses on the property was colicing- the intestines get blocked and twist if not caught in time.
I spent hours that night with the vet. Assisting with tubing the mare, waiting for any signs of improvement. When the vet was about to call it a night and call the owner to euthanise the horse, I lost it. All that hard work, just to end in death. The vet only said "this isn't my first and it won't be my last."
A flip switched in my brain. Through a shaking voice and streams of tears, I was asking him questions about his career and life to distract me. I came to the barn that night as an assistant trainer; I left the barn as a storyteller.

At ASU's Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication, I began at the State Press- an online newspaper- in Fall 2023. I wrote on the community desk where stories revolved around the student body experience. I have wrote Buddhism club profiles to daily deadlines and event coverages of the U.S. Surgeon General coming to the Tempe campus.

Throughout the remainder of my Cronkite Career I plan to continue networking within the journalism industry and gain more experience through jobs and internships before graduating in December 2026.

As I continue into this industry, I remember that night of crying and questions as fuel to dig deeper into every story I write or show I produce. The future holds no bounds as I continue towards my career as a producer that will continue to push for the deeper story.
