Behind the Why
I remember the exact moment I chose journalism. It was four years ago, around 9 P.M. on a Sunday night. I had just returned from a horse show and one of the other horses on the property was colicing- the intestines get blocked and twist if not caught in time.
I spent hours that night with the vet. Assisting with tubing the mare, waiting for any signs of improvement. When the vet was about to call it a night and call the owner to euthanise the horse, I lost it. All that hard work, just to end in death. The vet only said "this isn't my first and it won't be my last."
A flip switched in my brain. Through a shaking voice and streams of tears, I was asking him questions about his career and life to distract me. I came to the barn that night as an assistant trainer; I left the barn as a storyteller.

Now my goal is to become a news producer. I have worked for several radio and news organizations across the Valley in multiple roles. Learning everything from writing styles to running the board, I have realized I am most happy when producing. I love being being timely and working with the entire newsroom to deliver a segment or story. In addition I love being able to curate content for our audience while working with hosts and anchors to deliver entertainment and the need to know information.

I will graduate in December 2025 from the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication. While there I was involved in ASU State Press as a community reporter, worked on the social media team for Cronkite News and earned several internships. Leaving ASU will be hard for the memories and network of support I have built.

As I continue into this industry, I remember that night of crying and questions as fuel to dig deeper into every story I write or show I produce. The future holds no bounds as I continue towards my career as a producer that will continue to push for the deeper story.
